Ahead of tonight’s “Supernatural” Season 15 premiere, stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles visited Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast for “Supernatural” Week last week, where the host and “Smallville” alum asked the current CW actors to open up about the decision to end their CW show, which started in 2005 and also stars Misha Collins (Castiel), after 15 seasons and if there could ever be more of the horror series in the future.

“It was an agreement [with everyone to end the show]… This was sort of, ‘Hey, let’s go ahead and do what’s best for our family and the world and the show,” Padalecki told Rosenbaum about ending the show, which was announced to fans back in March. “We had some pretty outrageous and outstanding support from CW and WB.

“Maybe it’s part of them just being kind to their actors so that we don’t freak out, like actors do, but I believe that if we wanted to go five, 10, 15 more years, they probably would’ve justified [it] because they know what we’ve sacrificed, how we’ve worked and how they worked. We always said, ‘When it’s time for the show to end, we’ll know.’ And that moment hit and we were like, ‘Okay, I think it’s time for the show to end.’”

Because of how much he loves this show, he wants “to see it off and let it go with honor.”

As for Ackles, he had similar thoughts to Padalecki about it all, saying, “Look, I love this show, I’ve gone this long, why wouldn’t we just keep going? But, at the same time — and this isn’t just coming from me, there’s a laundry list of people that have had this conversation and are continuing to have this conversation, but it was one of those things where it was like, let’s decide before it’s too late. Let’s decide before it gets decided for us.”

He explained to Rosenbaum, whose band Left on Laurel just released its debut album, “Saved by the Ground,” that they wanted “Supernatural” to go out while it was still “going strong.”

After learning more about the cast and crew’s choice to end the show, Rosenbaum, who also hosts the “IN LOVE…” podcast with “This Is Us” star Chris Sullivan, asked if Padalecki would ever consider doing a “Supernatural” movie in the future, after the series finale.

“I would love to… I would love that,” the “Gilmore Girls” alum told him. “It’s far too early, I suppose, for the people who pay for it to talk about it, but, man, I would love that.”

Fans can see the “Supernatural” Season 15 premiere when airs on The CW on Thursday at 8 p.m. EDT.
