“I Am Jazz” Season 3 has been a whirlwind for Jazz Jennings. The LGBT advocate did not just go through the final steps of her transition, she also found love in the person of Ahmir Steward. But now Jazz appears to be making another big step in her life: moving out of her parents’ house.

Now that Jazz is 18, she is eager to explore the adult world on her own. Hence, she is craving for some independence by living on her own and away from her mother, Jeanette, and father, Greg.

The latest episode of the TLC reality series — filmed in the run-in to her 18th birthday last October — featured a serious talk between Jazz and her parents. In their conversation, Jazz brought up the idea of moving out.

“I want to be able to exercise a little bit more freedom and a little bit more control in my life so by the time I do go to college, I can be fully prepared for that lifestyle,” Jazz told her parents, as shown in the clip below.

The idea of moving out did not sit well with her parents. Greg asked Jazz if they had been prohibiting her from enjoying independence. Jeanette chimed in, saying they have been “pretty lenient” and have given their daughter the freedom to do whatever she wants.

Greg then voiced his suspicion of Jazz planning this move because of her romance with Ahmir. But Jazz insisted that it’s not that even though there is a likely benefit with her relationship in case she moves out.

Jeanette got worried upon hearing this and confided that she thinks Ahmir really has a big role in her daughter’s desire to move out. She asserted in the episode that Jazz still needs to learn that one only lives with a partner if they are “very serious” with each other.

To discourage Jazz, Greg enumerated the things that the trans teen needs to pay for in case she leaves. He pointed out that aside from the place, Jazz also needs to take care of phone bills, car insurance, cable and utilities. Jeanette added food to the list just so it’s clear that Jazz gets to enjoy everything at their residence.

In her sit-down interview with Greg, Jeanette confessed that she thinks Jazz is not mature enough to be independent. In their family conversation, Jeanette pointed out the things that Jazz is reluctant to do on the daily, like getting up early. However, Jazz was still adamant about moving out.

“Like you don’t understand … You’re like, I need to see all these things from you before I let you move. But all you’re doing is imposing your version of the best lifestyle upon me,” Jazz said.

Jazz has made it clear earlier in the season that she’s excited to sexually experiment now that she has Ahmir in her life. However, her parents do not agree with her because they think she’s rushing things with her boyfriend. Could this be fueling Jazz’s desire to move out?

Also in the previous episode, Jazz learned that Ahmir could be kicked out of his family home when he comes back to Philadelphia because his mom still sees his girlfriend as a man. When Jazz said that she wants to talk to Ahmir’s mom, Ahmir brushed it off and said that there’s no way they can change his mother’s opinions about their relationship.

“I Am Jazz” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
