While "Extraction" becomes the most-watched Netflix feature movie, the film’s writer, Joe Russo, is all set to start working on its next installment after finalizing the deal for "Extraction 2" under the AGBO, the company he runs with his brother, Anthony. The Russo Brothers are recreating the film's magic by gradually adding pieces together and bringing back director Sam Hargrave and Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the lead character, Tyler Rake.

In his interview with Deadline, Russo shared that the deal is closed for him to write "Extraction 2," and they are in the formative stages of what the story can be. “We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience,” he added.

However, those deals won’t be made by Netflix until the script is ready.

The finale of the first installment left the audience asking questions, giving the writers creative freedom to explore what's next in the storyline. There are also several characters arcs in the movie which can be explored further, which have enough room for writers to be flexible and create a prequel.

According to Russo, Hargrave was the ideal action director to helm this film as he needed a brawny action director who could spearhead the primary creative force when it comes to executing the action scenes.

Hemsworth, on the other hand, hasn't signed a deal yet. Russo wants to deviate his entire focus on the story before he starts writing the script and shows it to Hemsworth. Much to his delight, Hemsworth seemed excited about the film garnering the biggest opening day audience which is slated to be viewed by a whopping 90 million families for the subsequent four weeks on Netflix.
