KEY POINTS

  • Johnny Depp was not threatening Amber Heard but was only venting to a friend, Twitter says about the controversial text messages
  • Paul Bettany was mocked for defending his pal Johnny Depp
  • Johnny Depp's exes didn't experience any violence or abuse when they were with him

Twitter users remain supportive of Johnny Depp after his controversial text about Amber Heard.

Depp allegedly texted his pal Paul Bettany, “Let’s drown her before we burn her!!!” pertaining to his ex-wife, Heard. Many reacted to the text, but several still backed Depp because for them, it was just a text and it never meant that he put a hand on Heard. The text was pale in comparison to Heard’s audio recording confessing that she started their fights and she hit him.

“He wasn't ‘threatening’, he was venting to his friend,” one netizen wrote on Twitter defending Depp.

“I swear. People are wild. I feel like if someone went through every text and email for the last decade, that they'd find something [explicit] from EVERYONE. His may have been more graphic, but the idea is the same. ‘I’m going to [explicit] kill them!’ is so commonly said to a friend,” the online user added.

“Got nothing to say about her actual admission of abuse though? He can fantasize all day, but if there’s no proof he tried to act on it, it means nothing. She however full on admitted she beats him,” another netizen commented.

“Anyone here who claims they haven’t vented some pretty harsh things privately is a liar. And probably for much less than being abused by a narcissistic pos like Scamber. He also said he could never hurt her. As most people venting anger never do anything either. Hypocrites,” @Mels64338707 added.

“Amber Heard verbally admits to being abusive, main stream media: silence Johnny Depp sends intoxicated texts to a friend venting saying bad things, not to Amber, and not done to Amber, mainstream media: Bro we gotta cover this [explicit] can you believe this?!” @wovi_vuori wrote.

Depp and Bettany have been good friends for years. They worked together in various films including “The Tourist” in 2010, “Transcendence” in 2014 and “Mortdecai” in 2015. When Heard alleged that Depp was abusive and violent, the “Avengers Age of Ultron” star defended Depp calling him the “sweetest, kindest, gentlest man.” Bettany was mocked for his tweet, but he was not the only one who stood by Depp. Lawrence M. Krauss also said that he was Depp’s friend and Bettany’s words were true.

Depp’s exes have also spoken about the matter. Winona Ryder, Vanessa Paradis and Lori Anne Allison said they never experienced any abuse when they were with Depp.
