After celebrating more than eight years of marriage, Prince William and Kate Middleton appear to have a perfect relationship. However, it appears Kate was concerned about making the same mistakes that ruined Princess Diana’s marriage with Prince Charles.

Unlike the Princess of Wales, Kate reportedly took great measures to make sure Prince William was comfortable in their relationship and didn’t feel upstaged.

According to an unearthed Vanity Fair report from 2011, royal biographer Katie Nicholl claimed Kate didn’t want to shake up the royal family the same way Princess Diana did.

“Tall and slender, just like Diana, Kate possesses poise that is nothing short of regal, and she seemed confident and, above all, happy,” the royal expert revealed.

“Unlike Diana, who made it her quest to rebel against the royal grain, Kate appeared to adhere to the protocol expected of her instinctively.”

When Kate and William decided to spend their lives together, she wanted to make sure she made as few mistakes as possible. “She listened to William’s aides and followed the prince, making sure she stayed one step behind him,” Nicholl explained.

“As she would explain during their televised interview with journalist Tom Bradby, her intention was to follow his lead. Outshining Charles had been one of Diana’s flaws, and Kate did not want to make the same mistake.”

Although the press paid special attention to Kate during each of her three pregnancies, the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly made an effort to share the spotlight with her husband, which has only strengthened their marriage.

Nowadays, Prince William and Kate are busy sharing the royal spotlight and being hands-on parents to their three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
