Although Kate Middleton appears to be in great spirits whenever she is photographed alongside her husband, Prince William, the Duchess of Sussex also has a small circle of friends that she enjoys spending time with.

However, following the announcement that Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, will be separating from his wife, Autumn, after 12 years together, a royal commentator revealed the split may cause Kate to lose a good friend.

During an episode on the ROYALS podcast, Angela Mollard revealed that Kate values her friendship with autumn, but may have to stay away from her for the sake of the royal family.

“For Kate to be able to properly talk to somebody like Autumn must be incredibly valuable,” Mollard explained.

The royal commentator went on to reveal that Autumn’s split could affect how much Kate can trust her. “It’s very hard for someone like Kate–you’ve got your own direct family and then you’ve got friends who you would trust, and I don’t imagine there would be many of them. You have to be sure anything you say wouldn’t get passed on,” Mollard explained.

On the podcast, the expert also revealed that the royal family may take certain precautions to keep Autumn happy amid the separation. “The last thing you want is for someone like Autumn to be poorly treated, as Diana would have claimed that she was, and to sort of go rogue and start revealing all sorts of things about the family,” Mollard said.

“Diana kept thinking that every time she spoke after her divorce, it would clear the air. It never cleared the air, it just caused more speculation and consternation about what was going on for her.”

Mollard insisted that a public split similar to Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s separation would be less than ideal. For now, Autumn and Peter will be living at Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate, but they will be staying in separate houses.
