If you were hoping reports about Katy Perry and Ryan Phillippe were true, we have some bad news for you. After supposedly being spotted at Elton John’s birthday party, rumors began swirling that the pop star was dating the actor, but on Monday, Phillippe and Perry took to Twitter to shut the rumors down and crush the hopes of fans.

“I am not dating Katy Perry. Barely know her,” Phillippe tweeted. “Please stop flying helicopters over my house. She is not here. Thx.”

In typical Katy Perry fashion, the “Chained to the Rhythm” singer jokingly tweeted, “Can you let me out of this basement pls.” She then adding, “Hi, @RyanPhillippe, nice to meet you. Sorry about that. Carry on.”

With the relationship over before it could even begin, fans of the two tweeted their reaction to the news. While most fans laughed at Perry’s tweets about being locked in the actor’s basement, others actually wanted to see the two together.

Perry’s last relationship was with actor Orlando Bloom in 2016. After dating the actor for about 10 months, the two split up in February, although a statement from both said they were taking a break. “Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time,” the statement read.

It seemed like the two were on their way to a happy relationship, with a source telling People, “[Bloom] always gushes about Katy and thinks she is amazing in a million ways. He would love to settle down with Katy and have more kids. He hasn’t been this serious about a girl since Miranda [Kerr].”
