Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in the “Matrix” and “John Wick” franchises, has gained many loyal fans over the years not only because of his movies but also because of his selfless acts.

The 57-year-old Canadian actor, whose films have earned billions of dollars at the box office, donated 70% of his earnings from the original “The Matrix” movie to cancer research, according to a New York Post report.

Reeves reportedly received $10 million upfront to star as Neo in the 1999 sci-fi film and earned an additional $35 million when the movie became a hit. “The Matrix” grossed $463 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, and the actor got a chunk of the backend.

Reeves donated a whopping $31.5 million to leukemia research, LadBible reported.

His younger sister, Kim, was battling leukemia when the actor made the donation. She was diagnosed with the disease in 1991 and didn't enter remission until 10 years later.

Reeves continued to donate to the cause in the years after his sister was cured, the report said. He reportedly established a private fund back in the early 2000s for cancer research.

In 2020, the "Bill & Ted" star auctioned off a 15-minute Zoom date with himself, with the money going to Camp Rainbow Gold, a summer program for Idaho children with cancer. The winning bidder reportedly paid over $19,000 for the brief date with the Hollywood star.

Reeves has also supported PETA, Stand Up To Cancer and the SickKids Foundation, among other organizations.

Over the years, there have also been countless stories shared about Reeves' kind acts toward fans, co-workers and strangers, from buying food for the crew on his movie sets to giving people a ride in his car.

The Hollywood star has a net worth of $380 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Reeves reportedly earned at least $120 million in bonuses from the second and third “The Matrix” movies. His total earnings from the franchise tops $200 million.

Outside of acting, Reeves played bass guitar for the band Dogstar for several years in the '90s and released two albums with the group. He also co-founded a company that builds custom motorcycles, Arch Motorcycle Company, and a production company called Company Films.

In addition to these, Reeves is also one of the founders of a small press called X Artists' Books. He himself has co-written two books with partner Alexandra Grant, “Ode to Happiness” and “Shadows.”
