The Legends are finally reunited with their long-lost original captain, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), in the extended trailer for Season 2, episode 9 of “Legends of Tomorrow.” The problem, however, is that Rip doesn’t remember any of them.

In the minute-long preview clip, Sara (Caity Lotz) tries to convince Rip that he’s actually a time master prior to assuming the identity of a graduate film student named Phil.

“Your name is Rip Hunter. You fly the Waverider. It’s a time ship,” Sara shouts at Rip as he walks towards the edge of a building rooftop.

“There’s no such thing as Rip Hunter and there’s no such thing as a time ship,” replies Rip, who looks so confused with what’s happening.

Before Rip can jump off the rooftop, the Waverider appears before him, causing him to pass out. The team brings him to the time ship’s medical bay where Gideon finds out that “Captain Hunter has been reprogrammed with a new identity.”

Later in the clip, Jax (Franz Drameh) tells Nate (Nick Zano) and Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) that the Legion of Doom was the one responsible for what happened to Rip. It is unclear how exactly the Legion erased Rip’s past memories as a time master, but the relic Spear of Destiny — which has the power to change reality itself — might have something to do with it.

While the extended trailer for the winter premiere doesn’t show any sign that the Legends are going succeed in convincing Rip of who he was anytime soon, photos from the show’s recent outdoor filming suggest that Rip will eventually remember his past experiences as a time master.

Earlier this month, YVRShoots spotted Darvill, Lotz, Zano and Richardson-Sellers filming a sequence at Oceanic Plaza in downtown Vancouver for the season’s upcoming episode 13, titled “Moonshot.” As seen in the photos captured by the news outlet, it seems that Rip is already back with the team. “Legends of Tomorrow” Season 2, episode 9, titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
