Lori Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, have remained in the public eye in recent months following the disappearance of Vallow's children, Tylee Ryan and Joshua "JJ" Vallow. Following a June 9 search of Daybell's Idaho property, the two children's remains were recovered and he was charged with two counts of destruction and alteration or concealment of evidence, which are felony charges.

As Daybell, who has been described as "a prolific Doomsday author, alleged cult leader and former grave digger," readies for his upcoming trial, some who knew him are speaking out about their personal experiences with him prior to his charges.

According to EastIdahoNews.com, author Suzanne Freeman revealed a disagreement the two had regarding the rights to her books. After being published through Daybell's company, Spring Creek Book Company, Freeman started to feel as though something wasn't "quite right" due to the fact that he had started publishing non-Mormon doctrine stories.

Per her account, he had also attempted to remove "LDS stuff" from her own work. As a result, on June 2, 2017, she sent Daybell an email and shared her concerns.

"I have had a deep respect for you and have thought that you were following the spirit but in the past few years I think that deception has crept in," she wrote, adding, "I do not agree with what you are publishing. I have come to the understanding that what you are publishing is false."

Freeman then asked for the rights to her books, which she believed she was owed since she had already paid Daybell in full. Later, she would tell her friends that she viewed his beliefs as "dangerous." She then confirmed that she never received the rights to the books even though the two had communicated for several months after her request.

In addition to Freeman's account of Daybell, others have also spoken out in recent weeks about their own histories with him. Not only did a neighbor describe his behavior as "strange" following Tylee and JJ's disappearance, but one close friend said she believed he had "opened the doors of darkness."

As for Daybell himself, his bail was set at $1M during a hearing earlier this month. He is expected to appear back in court on July 1 and has since entered a not guilty plea.
