A man in India has been arrested for allegedly killing his boyfriend and burning his corpse inside a locked building.

The 30-year-old unidentified suspect from Indore, a city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested Saturday for murdering his male friend for ending their same-sex relationship, police said, as reported by Times Now News.

Officers found the victim's half-burnt body inside a locked building in the city on Nov. 18. During the investigation, the cops took into custody the suspect, who worked as a watchman at the building. While searching his residence, they found blood traces and he eventually confessed to the crime, the outlet reported.

Investigators also found evidence of rituals conducted at the residence. However, the suspect said he staged the scene to distract the officers to suspect it to be a human sacrifice.

"He [suspect] stated that the deceased was a friend of his. They were in a relationship. His friend wished to put an end to it. He was forcing his partner, but he refused to listen, so he killed him and burned his body in the board office's locked building. He placed some coconuts and flowers in an attempt to distract the police investigation towards human sacrifice," a senior investigating officer, Rajesh Raghuvanshi, was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The officials, however, are not ruling out the possibility of a sacrificial ritual, reports said.

The suspect has been detained on charges of murder and cops have informed the family of the deceased victim.

In a similar incident this month, a woman in India who had been missing for two months was found stuffed in a sack in a drain after she was allegedly murdered by her ex-lover. The suspect, identified as Ravindra from Karnal, a city in the northern Indian state of Haryana, killed the 38-year-old victim after she opposed his idea of ending the extra-marital affair with him.

Ravindra was detained on charges of murder. The victim's family, however, said that there could be more people involved with the murder and demanded a thorough investigation into the case.
