A man in India killed six family members of a person who allegedly cheated on his daughter and married another woman.

The man’s daughter and Vijay were in a relationship, and set to get married. However, Vijay reportedly cheated on her and married another woman. This took a toll on the woman’s mental health, following which her father, identified as Appala Raju, decided to take revenge on Vijay and his family members, media outlet News Meter reported.

Raju received information that Vijay was planning to attend a wedding in another town. Once Vijay left, the accused barged into his home Wednesday evening and hacked six family members to death. The incident took place in Visakhapatnam, a town in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, local daily Telangana Today reported.

Raju then went to the police station and surrendered himself. The officers rushed to Vijay's home and found all the victims lying in a pool of blood. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The police told local media the victims included a 6-month-old infant and a 2-year-old toddler. The weapon used in the crime was not known.

The accused remained in prison as of Thursday and has been charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims will be handed over to the family following an autopsy.

The incident comes days after a man in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand killed his wife, two daughters, aged 10 and 15, and their tuition teacher. The man bludgeoned all the victims with a hammer and then suffocated them to death with a pillow. A day after the murders, the man invited his friend’s family for lunch and attacked them using the same weapon. One of them escaped and informed the police, who arrived at the home and discovered the bodies. The teacher’s body was found inside a bed box with her hands tied. The suspect was on the run at the time.
