Man Kills Minor Children Following Fight With Wife, Dumps Bodies In Car Trunk

A man was arrested for killing his two minor children after bodies of the victims were found in his car’s trunk. The incident took place in the western Indian state of Maharashtra on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as 37-year-old Chandrakant Mohite, was undergoing treatment for Tuberculosis and his ailment often led to fights between him and his wife. On Wednesday, the couple got into a heated argument following which the woman left the home and went to her parents’ house. In a fit of rage, the accused took their children, identified as 11-year-old Gauravi and seven-year-old Pratik, in his car and called up his brother to inform that he was going to kill the children. The brother immediately alerted the police who swung into action.
“After leaving the city limits, he called up his older brother and told him about the fight with his wife and said he was going to kill his children and end his life too. His brother immediately informed the police,” a source told local daily the Times of India.
Mohite’s brother had given police the phone number of the accused as well as the car registration number with the help of which they were able to trace him on a state highway. When intercepted, Mohite told the officers he had smothered his children to death with a piece of cloth. When the officers opened the trunk of the car, they found the bodies of the victims.
“When we opened the boot, we found their bodies. He has admitted to killing the kids and we have arrested him,” police said.
Upon further interrogation, the accused said he was about to kill himself when the police stopped him on the highway. Meanwhile, police said the investigation was ongoing and they were planning to record the statement of Mohite’s wife as well as other family members. The bodies of the victims were sent for autopsy and the accused was set to appear in court Thursday.
