Man Who Intervened In Couple's Fight That Turned Violent Bludgeoned To Death

A man has been beaten to death in India after he tried to save a woman who was violently attacked by her husband, police said.

The 24-year-old man, identified by his surname Arjun, from the Northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was thrashed to death Monday after he interfered in a dispute between a couple who lived in his neighborhood.

The police have registered a case against Naveen Kumar, the suspect identified in the attack, but have not made any arrests.

“We have registered an FIR under the section of culpable homicide and the accused Naveen will soon be arrested. Prima facie, it appears that the victim died of a head injury,” Rohit Singh Sajwan, the investigating officer said, reported Times of India.

Kumar reportedly lost his job last month and often quarreled with his wife Deepmala. On Monday, Kumar was in a foul mood and started to violently assault his wife with a stick.

Arjun who witnessed the attack tried to interfere in the dispute and save Deepmala. However, Kumar got enraged and turned his violence towards Arjun. Kumar continued to beat up Arjun until he was rescued by the witnesses.

Arjun’s family first took him to the nearest police station to file a complaint against the suspect without realizing that his injuries could be fatal, news outlet Orissa Post reported. He was later taken to a hospital but soon succumbed to his injuries.

In a similar incident this month, a man bludgeoned his wife to death in front of his toddler son in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. The accused, identified as 33-year-old Shaan Khan, murdered his third wife, 29-year-old Aarifa Khan after she refused to have sex with him. Accusing Aarifa of having an affair, Shaan reportedly hit her in the head with a marble kitchen utensil and banged her head against a door several times. The neighbors heard the couple’s 2-year-old crying incessantly and checked the house to find the victim’s body. They reported it to the police and Shaan was taken into custody while he was trying to flee the state.
