Meghan Markle may have spent solo time with the Queen during their recent trip to Cheshire, but this doesn’t mean the former “Suits” star has become comfortable around the monarch.

Judi James, a body language expert, recently told Express that Markle looked anxious in the photo while she was with the Queen and Prince Harry at the Young Leaders Awards Ceremony last month.

“Meghan has always used poised and elegant body language but here with the Queen, the effort is showing slightly and that is reflecting in her facial expression. She sits upright in her chair and although she was alleged to have broken royal protocol by crossing her legs at the knee, her leg-slant means her ankles are pushed demurely to one side,” James said.

“The dreaded clutch bag has commandeered its own part of her seat and she is gripping it with both hands to keep it in place,” she added.

The body language expert said that while the Duchess of Sussex still looked beautiful during the event, but it cannot be denied that she was also rigid.

“There is a fixed display of teeth and although her cheeks are rounded, normally a sign of a natural smile, the expression in her eyes is not quite as happy as the mouth smile,” she explained.

In contrast, the Queen looked relaxed during the entire awarding ceremony. After all, the 92-year-old monarch is already used to attending public events as part of her role as the ruler of the Royal Family.

“The Queen sits squarely and symmetrically on her own chair, with her legs uncrossed and straight down in a much more sustainable and relaxed way, with both her hands free thanks to the large bag that sits on the floor at her side,” James said.

Prince Harry sat in the middle of his wife and grandmother, and according to James, he looked confident.

“Harry, meanwhile, sits using a confident and high-status knee-splay with only the partially balled hands on his thighs suggesting any sense of anxiety that might be created by the effort to please from his wife,” she said.
