Since Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018, she has taken a unique approach to adjust to her new life in the royal family. Unfortunately, some of her decisions have been harshly criticized. Her recent announcement about her collaboration with British Vogue seems to contradict one of Queen Elizabeth’s best qualities.

Despite the public’s interest in the royal family, Elizabeth has gone decades without sharing information about the famous brood. However, one commentator noted that Meghan began spilling details about the family a year after she married Prince Harry.

During an appearance on Sky News, Harry Mount claimed Meghan needs to learn from Queen Elizabeth’s past if she wants to avoid disappointing the royal family in the future.

“I think she should follow the example of her grandmother-in-law and stick to public speeches, to charity work. She is extremely good at that, I’m an admirer of hers, but she must be very careful about airing her thoughts too much,” he said of her candid interview in Vogue.

“The great 19th-century constitutional journalist Walter Bagehot said about the monarchy, ‘its mystery is its life, don’t let daylight in upon magic' – if you hear too much about what she thinks, she loses her mystery.”

Mount believes Elizabeth’s silence is the reason why she is one of the most admired members of the royal family.

“One of the great things about the Queen is that in 67 years on the throne, she’s never given an interview. We don’t know what she thinks so she gets that grandeur and that mystery,” he explained.

Rather than chat with a fashion magazine, Mount claimed Meghan should focus on her royal duties and charity projects. “It’s not the sort of things royals should be doing. I’m a fan of Meghan’s, I think she’s a very good speechmaker – she made a very good speech to the UN,” the author shared.

“But it’s strange to be accelerated to the position of a magazine editor just like that. I think you end up being accelerated to a position that you’re not quite up to.”

While Meghan’s decision to be a guest editor on the September issue of British Vogue was met with criticism, the Duchess of Sussex still has time to reflect on the past, and strategize before making any more major decisions.
