  • Trump previously said the FBI agents left his wife's room in a mess
  • Sources said Melania "cared" about the FBI search but not as much as her husband
  • Melania is sure Trump would never leave his stuff in her bedroom, sources added

Former First Lady Melania Trump has remained silent about the FBI's search of the family's Mar-a-Lago home but was "annoyed" about strangers hunting through her personal items, sources claimed.

As part of an ongoing federal investigation into ex-president Donald Trump's handling of classified documents, the FBI searched his residence in Palm Beach, Florida, with a warrant that allowed them to check any space and room that he frequents in the 3,500 square residence, a source told CNN.

The Trump couple have separate bedrooms in Mar-a-Lago, and Melania's bedroom is a short hall away from her husband's home office and bedroom.

After the FBI searched Melania's personal items, Trump wrote a post on Truth Social and said they left her room in a "mess."

"Just learned that agents went through the First Lady's closets and rummaged through her clothing and personal items. Surprisingly, left area in a relative mess. Wow!" Trump's post reportedly said.

While Trump appeared to be fuming over the search, Melania seemed to be angry but not quite as furious as her husband, sources said.

"She cared, but not like he cared," a source familiar with her reaction told CNN while another added, "It annoyed her."

The second source said Melania's anger had more to do with her privacy being invaded and less about the implications of the FBI search on her husband.

During the Trump tenure at the White House, Melania was seen as a fairly quiet and private first lady, and sources said she stayed true to character by staying mum about the FBI's search.

"She's private, and she's protective of her son and her home," the second source added.

Another source familiar with her reserved style of communication told the outlet, "Why would she say anything?"

"Her thinking is, if she's quiet, it will just go away," added the same source.

Sources that spoke to the publication also believe that Melania is able to remain calm about the situation because she believes her husband would never keep his things in her bedroom. In her eyes, Trump's business is not her business, the sources claimed.

"She would never allow him to keep his stuff in her room, and he would frankly never ask," one source said. Meanwhile, another source, familiar with the couple for several years, said, "(Melania Trump) has always considered what Donald does to be separate from her. Decisions he makes about his business are his decisions, not hers."

While the former president continues to make headlines, Melania has maintained a fairly low profile since the Trumps left the White House. Her focus now seems to be on selling digital nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, of White House memorabilia, according to Business Insider.

"It's weird," a former Trump adviser told CNN. "To be so blatant about making money from USA-themed collectibles."
