Michelle Obama and Barack Obama introduced their two daughters, Malia and Sasha, to the entire world when they were just 10 and 7 years old, respectively.

At that time, the ex-POTUS was campaigning to become the president of the United States. In the interview, Malia and Sasha made headlines due to their witty remarks and unique sense of humor.

Michelle and Barack’s daughters also made headlines due to the way that they dressed during the interview. The now 21-year-old Malia had her hair braided, while 18-year-old Sasha wore a red tank top in front of the cameras.

In her book “Becoming,” the ex-FLOTUS revealed that she and her husband regretted their decision to have their daughters speak in front of the cameras that early. After the interview aired, cloying taglines were published by various publications.

“Suddenly Malia’s and Sasha’s little-kid comments were being picked up in newspapers around the world. Immediately, Barack and I regretted what we’d done,” Michelle said.

“We felt like we’d made a wrong choice, putting their voices into the public sphere long before they could really understand what any of it meant. Nothing in the video would hurt Sasha or Malia. But it was out in the world now,” she added.

Barack and Michelle’s interview was conducted by Maria Menounos for MSNBC years ago, and the interviewer said that Malia and Sasha weren’t supposed to take part in it. But since the interview was held on July 4, which also happened to be Malia’s birthday, Menounos asked the children to join instead.

Menounos described her interview with Michelle and Barack Obama as spontaneous and organic.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama, who has vowed not to run for president in next year’s election, gushed over her daughters in her memoir. She recounted how Malia acted like their family’s junior professor during the interview since she earnestly pondered every question.

“She said that her dad embarrassed her sometimes when he tried to shake hands with her friends and also that he bothered all of us when he left his campaign luggage blocking the door at home,” she said.

Sasha, on the other hand, did her best to sit still and stay focused. She also listened to her older sister’s statements earnestly.
