A sandstorm hits the town in Season 1, episode 9 of NBC’s “Midnight, Texas.”

This, however, is no ordinary storm. According to the synopsis for the episode, the storm conceals wraith-like demonic spirits heralding the arrival of a demon from hell.

As revealed at the end of Season 1, episode 8, this demon is Colcannar, the evil entity that has been tormenting Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley) since Season 1, episode 2. Fiji knows this demon wants her, so her lover Bobo (Dylan Bruce) vows to protect her all while wondering why the demon has targeted her and no one else.

Manfred (François Arnaud), Joe (Jason Lewis) and the Rev (Yul Vazquez) dig for answers from the past, but when the storm gets too dangerous, Manfred leads the Midnighters to an unlikely hiding spot outside of town. The promo for the episode, however, suggests that some residents prefer to stay and confront the threat head-on.

“We’ve got no one to stop them,” Manfred says of the evil spirits signaling Colcannar’s advent. “There’s only one thing we could do: get out.”

But Bobo insists he’s “not going anywhere.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Olivia (Arielle Kebbel) confronts Lem (Peter Mensah) about their relationship. The romance between the two started to fall apart when Olivia mentioned to Lem in Season 1, episode 7 that they have an expiration date. “You stay like this, and I’ll get old and that can’t work indefinitely,” the assassin tells the vampire. “So when the time comes, I’ll leave. Not anytime soon but eventually.”

Lem reminded Olivia that he could always turned her into a vampire, but that isn’t a choice for her. “I don’t wanna be turned,” Olivia said.

Things between the couple got worse when Olivia told Creek (Sarah Ramos) in Season 1, episode 8 that Lem couldn’t leech her pain away.

“You had no right answering for me,” Lem tells Olivia, before suggesting that she’s jealous of Creek.

“So you’re saying [that the] leeching between us just [is] no big thing? Olivia asked.

“I thought it was more until I learned you’re leaving me,” Lem replied.

Unfortunately, as Lem struggled to fight the effects of the veil to hell opening in Midnight, Lem tried to turn Olivia. Although Olivia was able to stop Lem from biting her, his attempt to turn her led to a brutal fight between them. Can the two still reconcile after everything that has happened?

“Midnight, Texas” Season 1, episode 9, titled “Riders on the Storm,” airs on Wednesday at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
