Republicans entered the midterm elections with the advantage of the party that does not hold the White House likely to make gains the following election. In Ohio, Republican J.D. Vance has owned a slim lead against Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan, while Florida polls show Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio with big leads.

But Democrats may stave off big losses on Nov. 8, recent polls show. Polls from purple states show Democrats ahead or close.

In Nevada, two polls this week showed Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto leading Republican Adam Laxalt. A USA Today/Suffolk University poll showed Masto ahead, 45%-44%. A poll from the Nevada Independent showed Masto leading Laxalt, 43%-41%.

The same poll showed Democrat John Fetterman ahead of Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania, 49%-44%.

In Arizona, Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly leads Republican Blake Masters, 51%-45%.
