“The Mighty Ducks" might be ready to make a comeback, as early reports are suggesting that a reboot series based on the film might make its way to Disney+ soon.

Discussing Film reports that the new series would follow a 13-year-old boy who gets kicked off his local junior division Mighty Ducks team. As a result, his mom steps in to start a new team and recruit new players, a coach and a place to play. The story is completely different from the original 1992 film, which followed a down-on-his-luck lawyer who winds up coaching a hockey team as part of his community service after getting a DUI.

The series was originally announced back in 2018 with ABC Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Steven Brill, who wrote the 1992 film, was expected to return as an executive producer with Cathy Yuspa, Josh Goldsmith, George Heller, and Brad Petrigala.

The original film became something of a cult sensation after its release, helping to make Emilio Estevez (Coach Bombay) and then newcomers Joshua Jackson and Elden Henson more household names. It also spawned two sequel films and an animated series that ran from 1996-1997. Those who want to rewatch the animated series will have a chance soon enough as well because it will be found in the Disney+ service along with a huge catalog of Disney films and TV series.

Disney+ will be making its debut on Nov. 12 and launch its first slate of original programming. The new content getting released include the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian”, a live-action remake of “The Lady and the Tramp”, “Forky Asks A Question”, the Christmas comedy “Noelle”, “High School Musical: The Series”, and “The World According to Jeff Goldblum”.

No release date has been given for the rumored “Mighty Ducks” film, but production is reportedly set to begin in February 2020 in Vancouver.
