Miley Cyrus has opened up about her appearance on “Black Mirror,” being sober and more.

Before the pandemic, the “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker appeared on Netflix’s anthology series “Black Mirror.” Cyrus played a pop star named Ashley O who wants to move on from her aunt Catherine (Susan Pourfar), the person managing her career.

Ashley finds her aunt controlling. The latter slips her too many pills until Ashley falls into a coma. A fan (Angourie Rice) helps the singer wake up and break free.

“There were some obvious similarities through the character that I’ve played before that actually really became my life, like her wanting to explore rock ’n’ roll and change genres,” Cyrus said of the role in an interview with Variety.

She also pointed out the huge difference between her and Ashley. Cyrus acknowledged her parents’ contribution for having a life that is so much better than what Ashley had on the show.

“The main difference to me is I don’t have an Aunt Catherine. My mom has been my momager,” Cyrus said.

“Without my parents I bet my life would’ve been more similar to the Ashley O story. The thing that really makes me different than Ashley are my parents and the team that my parents put around me.”

Cyrus filmed the show in South Africa and she enjoyed it very much. She got to spend a month there and worked with some choreographers. She was isolated from her family and friends and thought that it was a “really cool experience.”

The “Hannah Montana” star also learned that her house in Malibu was caught on fire while she was filming. There were times when she had total meltdowns.

“It was just a really interesting time for me because so much was falling apart in my personal life, and it was the same thing that was happening in Ashley’s life. It gave me a lot to use,” she said.

Cyrus also shared that she has been “sober sober” for the past six months. She decided to do it following a major vocal surgery and she wasn’t allowed to talk for four weeks. Then, she examined her family history to understand everything about her.

“By understanding the past, we understand the present and the future much more clearly. I think therapy is great,” Cyrus added.

“That’s great. I’m celebrating my sober birthday on July 7. It will be seven years.”

Cyrus was also asked about a potential collaboration with Justin Bieber. According to “The Last Song” star, they could come up with something “very, very, very special.” However, at present, nothing is in the works.

On June 16, Cyrus was spotted with her boyfriend, Cody Simpson, grabbing coffee in Calabasas. The singer opted to go braless in her black tank top and paired it with skimpy bike shorts at the time.
