A minor girl's nose was allegedly chopped off by her attackers in India for resisting rape.

The incident took place Thursday in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, the attackers allegedly barged into her residence and tried to drag her away. They then attempted to sexually assault the girl.

However, when she started screaming, the attackers struck her with a sharp weapon, Times Now reported, citing IANS. Authorities said the attackers had been following the girl for many days.

The girl, who was bleeding excessively, was brought to a district hospital. She was later moved to Hallet hospital in the city of Kanpur for treatment, local media reports said. The doctors at the hospital said the unidentified girl was in serious condition due to severe blood loss.

The girl's father contacted the police, who suggested she should be hospitalized first. It remains unclear if a police complaint has been filed against the assailants so far.

The victim's father said he was concerned for his daughter's safety as the accused were roaming freely, the Kashmir Monitor reported. The identity of the assailants have not been revealed.

The police have also not made public how many people attacked the minor girl. It is also not known where the girl's family was when the attackers barged inside her home.

There have been some instances in the past where assailants have severely attacked minor girls or women for resisting rape.

Last year, a similar incident took place in the state of Uttar Pradesh, when a woman was thrashed and brutally assaulted by two men after she tried to resist their attempt to rape her. The 25-year-old was hospitalized after the suspects allegedly burned her eyes with a hot knife and beat her up. The victim was returning home in the evening when the incident took place. The woman told the police the duo attempted to sexually assault her, but when she resisted by beating them up with her slippers, they attacked her again. They put a cloth in her mouth to silence her. The suspects started beating her and heated a knife with a lighter to burn her eyes.
