A 10-year-old girl from Baraboo, Wisconsin, who was the subject of a statewide Amber Alert, was found dead. Local media WMTV reported, citing police, that the body was found near County Hwy. T and 12th Street late Tuesday morning.

An Amber Alert was issued late Monday for Kodie Dutcher. Authorities said she left a note behind reading, “Mom, I love you, but I can’t do it. Bye.” She left behind her cellphone and shoes.

Local media reported that the girl was suspected to have taken an unknown amount of pills. However, a spokesperson for the Baraboo Police Department Lt. Ryan La Broscian said he could not confirm if the pills the family believes Kodie took had anything to do with the cause of her death.

On Tuesday, July 7, Baraboo police indicated in a Facebook post that the initial search of the residence suggested Kodie threatened self-harm. After a missing report was filed, police searched the area around the residence. Baraboo Fire Department and Wisconsin Dells K-9 assisted in the search by scouring the area on foot.

“Our focus now will shift to investigating Kodie’s death,” La Broscian said. “We want to thank every agency and all the volunteers that responded or offered assistance with this situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kodie’s family in this extremely difficult time.”

Details about a cause of death or any other details remain unknown.

This is a developing story.
