A man missing for a week in Missouri was found alive at the bottom of a ravine inside a wrecked car.

Ryan Linneman, 37, was found Wednesday night by a dirt bike rider in the woods off Interstate 470 near Kansas City, Missouri and rushed to a nearby hospital after he was freed by emergency workers.

“He originally thought it was just an abandoned vehicle,” Kansas City Police Sgt. Bill Mahoney said, according to Kansas City FOX-affiliate, WDAF. “When he got up on it, he saw someone inside it. He initially thought he was dead and only realized he was still alive after a couple minutes.”

Linneman was originally reported missing on Oct. 9 when he disappeared while driving a tan, 2004 Honda Accord. The search was made more difficult thanks to an inactive phone and credit cards, making it impossible to follow digital crumbs to his whereabouts.

Because of where the vehicle ended up, it was difficult for passing drivers to see Linneman inside the car.

“He traveled approximately 175 feet off the highway, struck a sign and fell about 50 feet into a gully type area,” a police spokesperson told NBC News.

Linneman’s family has asked for privacy as he recovers from his injuries.
