A man was arrested after attacking another person with a knife and stabbing a dog in Missouri, on Wednesday night (April 29).

The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jesse Bailey, of Joplin, knocked on the door of the victim in the middle of the night and attacked him with a knife. The victim, identified as 53-year-old Jamie Lindsey, sustained stab injuries to his abdomen but he managed to escape from the home along with the other occupants. Following the incident, Bailey locked himself inside the victim’s house alone.

According to Police Captain Nick Jimenez, officers responded to an emergency call regarding a burglary at 1:15 a.m. local time (2:15 a.m. EDT) at a house in South Connor Avenue. When arrived at the scene, they discovered that the suspect also got into a verbal altercation with a neighbor, identified as Nicole Dunn, during which he stabbed the latter's pet dog.

As the assailant did not respond when officers asked him to come out of the house, a special weapons and tactics team (SWAT) arrived at the scene.

However, Bailey surrendered himself after a while. He was apprehended by the officers and taken to prison. He was charged with a felony count of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, resisting arrest, and a misdemeanor count of animal abuse.

Jimenez said Lindsey only suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization as the cut wasn’t life-threatening.

The condition of the pet dog which was stabbed remained unknown at the time as circumstances that led to the stabbing of the canine were still under investigation.
