Max Fried and Fernando Tatis Jr. have surprisingly been at the center of trade rumors over the last 24 hours. Amid speculation that the young stars might be moved this offseason, new reports suggest that both players will stay put.

ESPN's Buster Olney noted Tuesday that the Braves aren't thinking about trading Fried. Jack Curry of the YES Network said that the Yankees haven't ever talked about trying to trade for Tatis Jr.

MLB.com's Jim Callis said on "Hot Stove" Tuesday morning that he was hearing rumors of Fried being on the block. Callis noted that it wouldn't be shocking to see the Braves trade Fried because of their rising payroll.

Atlanta's payroll of $162 million is the fifth-highest in baseball, according to Spotrac. The Braves might still re-sign shortstop Dansby Swanson to a long-term contract. Atlanta could look to extend catcher Sean Murphy, who they just acquired in a trade.

Fried is arbitration-eligible for two more seasons until he can become a free agent.
The Braves might have to be offered at least one All-Star-caliber player in order to even consider moving Fried. The 28-year-old has been one of the National League's top pitchers in recent years.

Fried finished fifth in the 2020 NL Cy Young voting with a 2.25 ERA. He was the 2022 NL Cy Young runner-up with a 2.48 ERA.

Atlanta has won five straight NL East titles and is one season removed from winning the World Series. Following a 101-win 2022 campaign, the Braves are planning to compete for another title in 2023.

Unlike Fried, Tatis seems to be expendable. The San Diego Padres signed Xander Bogaerts, who will take Tatis' spot in the infield. The Padres are expected to put Tatis in left field, but his injury history and PED suspension could give San Diego pause about wanting to keep the 23-year-old and his 12-year contract on their books.

Amid several reports that the Yankees were eyeing a "big move," Tatis was floated as a possible target for New York. Given the organization's reluctance to increase its payroll by a sizable margin, trading for Tatis isn't a likely move.

It's possible that a team other than the Yankees will pursue Tatis for 2023 and beyond. Tatis has a career .965 OPS and averages 48 home runs for every 162 games.

Tatis missed the entire 2022 campaign and has 20 games left on his suspension.
