A woman has ended up behind bars after a police investigation revealed that she hid the fact that her boyfriend tortured and killed her 10-year-old son. The accused approached police two weeks ago to report that her son was "missing."

The incident happened in the Indian city of Bengaluru, reported The Indian Express.

Police said the woman, identified as Sahana, first approached police on Aug. 24 to report that her son was missing. According to her complaint, the boy was staying with her male friend Ravi, but has been missing since February 7. She claimed to have searched for him all these months.

Police decided to file a missing case, and an investigation was launched. However, Ravi confessed to murdering the boy during interrogation. Sahana too opened up to the police about Ravi's role in the murder during interrogation.

According to the police, Sahana, who was separated from the child's father, had left the boy with her boyfriend Ravi. The latter, however, saw the child as a hindrance to their relationship and had been abusing him.

The investigation revealed that the boy was tortured and killed in February. Ravi and Sahana then sought the help of another female to dispose of the child's body. They rented a car and drove to the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, where they disposed of the body.

Apparently, another investigation was simultaneously happening in Tamil Nadu after the police discovered the child's body. When discovered, the child's body had severe burn marks. His head was tonsured, and chilly powder was found in his mouth. However, the investigation did not make much progress as the child's identity could not be ascertained.

"The mother of the boy and two others have been arrested. There is a match between the body that was found in Tamil Nadu and the missing boy. The woman approached the police seven months after the boy went missing," a senior police officer told The Indian Express.

Police said that Sahana knew Ravi had killed the child but did not reveal it to anyone. She was forced into filing a missing person's complaint after the child's grandmother began questioning her about the boy, reported Deccan Chronicle.

All three accused have been arrested and will face charges of murder and sexual assault on children.
