Will’s happiness after coming out of the closet might not last long. In the “Nashville” Season 3 finale, Will (Chris Carmack) came out as gay to be with Kevin (Kyle Dean Massey). The two are in love and can finally be together publically. Fans hoped to see more of them next season. However, it seems Massey isn’t signed on for all of “Nashville” Season 4 yet.

“Officially, the ABC drama has no plans to make Massey, who plays Will’s songwriter love interest Kevin, a series regular,” TV Line reports. Is it time to break out the 'Will + Kevin = 4ever' signs for a protest? Not quite yet.

Just because Massey isn’t a series regular doesn’t mean he won’t appear on the drama. As of the end of last season, “Nashville” showrunner Dee Johnson said that she wanted Kevin to stick around. “Who knows, in terms of regulars or not? But I do think he did a really great job,” Johnson told TV Line. “They really clicked together. He’s definitely in my mind certainly going to be a presence.”

That’s a relief for Will and Kevin shippers, but it might not be smooth sailing for the couple. Will is going to be under extra stress in “Nashville” Season 4 when he tries to make his career work. He was selling an image of himself as a ladies’ man, and that idea isn’t going to work anymore. In fact, it might even alienate his fan base.

“He had big, big dreams, and it's not going to be nearly as easy to accomplish,” Johnson told the Hollywood Reporter last month. “I mean he wanted to be Luke Wheeler. Luke Wheeler can fill stadiums. I'm not sure that Will Lexington can anymore.”

Kevin might have to help Will figure out his new image. Will Kevin’s career as an out and successful musician make Will optimistic? Or will it make him a little jealous instead? We’ll have to wait for Season 4 to find out.

“Nashville” Season 4 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC. Do you want to see Will and Kevin stay together? Sound off in the comments section below!
