On the first Tuesday of August every year, National Night Out is observed to pay the people in law enforcement their due respect. While the name might give out the impression that it's about partying, the National Night Out event typically commemorates those who ensure our safety both during the night and the day and in every possible way.

An outstanding combination of passion and courage is the sole requirement to take up a law enforcement job. The uniform is the emblem of pride, honor and bravery and is, therefore, held in high regard. However, it's also the civilians' responsibility to contribute to a social cause.

The concept of National Night Out was rolled out in the United States in 1984 to promote police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie as a means to step up crime prevention efforts, according to the program's website. Ever since then, the day is marked by festivities, including parades and cookouts that are held across the nation.
