A woman killed her husband inside a vehicle while their children were on the backseat. The incident took place along Interstate 80 in Nebraska on Wednesday (June 17).

Kathleen Jourdan and her husband, identified as Joshua Jourdan, were returning to Omaha from Scottsbluff with their two kids in a pickup truck when she got into an argument with her husband. Joshua pulled over the vehicle and allegedly raised his arm as if to hit his wife. In response, Kathleen grabbed a gun and opened fire at her husband in front of their children. Kathleen then called 911 to report the incident and stayed in the vehicle until the deputies arrived.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the pickup truck parked along Interstate 80. They then found a dead man in the driver’s seat. The officers spoke to Kathleen who confessed to shooting her husband. She was taken into custody. The children, who were in the backseat of the vehicle, were not harmed.

The accused appeared in Dawson County Court on Thursday and was charged with second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon. She remained in Dawson County Jail and her two children were in protective custody. She is scheduled to appear in court again on July 2.

Local daily Omaha World-Herald stated that the accused was a resident physician at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency Program.

In a statement to the newspaper, UNMC said they were “aware of the allegations and charges regarding Dr. Kathleen Jourdan, a resident physician in the Family Medicine Residency Program.”

“Given the seriousness of these charges, Dr. Jourdan has been placed on administrative leave from the residency program, pending both internal and criminal investigations,” UNMC stated.

The incident comes months after a woman in Arlington, Texas, was arrested for fatally shooting her husband.
