  • Valve has announced that all games in the "Half-Life" series are free on Steam
  • The move is to anticipate the launch of "Half-Life: Alyx" on March 2020
  • "Half-Life: Alyx" is set before the events of "Half-Life 2" and the succeeding episodes

No, there's no “Half-Life 3" in the works, but Valve has a little something for their fans to smile about.

In line with the official release of “Half-Life: Alyx” in March, Valve is “celebrating early” by making all “Half-Life” games for free for the next two months.

You heard it right folks: everything from “Half-Life” to “Half-Life: Episode 2” can be played for free, provided that you have Steam installed on your Windows, Mac or Linux computers.

Engadget said that the freebie is Valve's way of hyping players as “Half-Life: Alyx” draws near. In addition, the new game will include characters “that play a part in later titles” considering that it is set before the events that unfolded in “Half-Life 2.”

“The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible,” said Valve in their website.

“Half-Life: Alyx” is the first title in the “Half-Life” series for more than 12 years. It is a “full-length” Virtual Reality game and should work with all PC-compatible VR headsets, although Index VR owners will get the game for free.

Pre-orders for “Half-Life: Alyx” will cost $59.99, added Engadget.
