All signs are pointing to COVID cases trending downward in the U.S. as the surge in Omicron seems to be waning, except for one state.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the average daily COVID cases are at 356,658, a decrease of 38% from last week.

Cases are down in all states except Alabama.

Alabama has a vaccination rate that is lower than most parts of the country, with only 50% of its residents fully vaccinated, according to The New York Times Vaccine Tracker.

In the rest of the country, the COVID death rate has dropped 7% from a week earlier to an average of 2,441 deaths a day, Johns Hopkins indicated.

However, the death count has remained the same for the last few days.

The U.S. is expected to surpass total COVID-19 deaths of 900,000 on Friday evening or Saturday. U.S. COVID deaths stand at 897,885, the highest in the world.

The nation’s hospitalizations have also dipped from last week, down 16% to 122,627 patients, according to the Department of Health and Human Services, as reported by CNN.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 64% of the population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with 41.9% of the eligible population receiving booster shots.
