The 2013 British Open is set begin on Thursday morning at Muirfield Golf Links in Gullane, Scotland. It’s the third PGA major championship of the year and the 142nd Open Championship.

Not surprisingly, Tiger Woods enters the tournament as the favorite. The online betting Web site Bovada has set his betting odds at 8/1. He’ll look to bounce back from a subpar performance at the U.S. Open, in which he came in 32nd place, shooting 13-over par for the four days.

Woods, who hasn’t won a major since 2008, was victorious at the British Open in 2005 and 2006. When the event was last held at Muirfield, Woods finished tied for 28th place and six shots behind leader Ernie Els. Els won the Open Championship last year and has the ninth-best odds at 28/1 to repeat as champion.

Phil Mickelson fell just short of Justin Rose’s one-over par at the U.S. Open, finishing in second place. The two golfers come in as the second and third favorites this weekend. Mickelson’s odds are set at 14/1, while Rose comes in at 18/1.

2013 Master’s winner Adam Scott is at No.4 with 20/1 odds. However, recent history indicates that neither he nor Rose will be victorious on Sunday. The last 19 majors have been won by 18 different competitors.

Peter Senior, Lloyd Saltman and Oliver Fisher will start the tournament when they tee off at 1:32 am ET. Below are betting odds for the 2013 British Open.
