“Pretty Little Liars” is all-new on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and the stakes are high. With Alison back in the picture and viewers aware of “A’s” identity, season 4B of the ABC Family series is heating up.

Last time fans left off, “A” had managed to steal Alison’s journal back from the girls. And while “A” initially had the notebook, the problem now is that the girls deciphered Alison’s secret messages.

Thanks to a leaked synopsis for episode 16, “Close Encounters,” viewers can get some clues about the upcoming drama. The episode will find Aria, Emily, Spencer and Hanna continuing on their quest to get answers about Alison … and finding that a suspicious person might hold a clue. Who may that suspicious person be? None other than Shana.

Shana has been missing in action ever since “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t.” The episode found Shana hiding inside Wren’s house, dropping papers that reveal Wren is moving back in with Melissa, and later meeting up to talk with Mona. This week she’ll return with a surprising message for Emily … from Ali.

Needless to say, Aria, Hanna and Spencer are having some trouble trusting Shana after everything she’s done. However when Emily learns that Alison only wants to meet her, she becomes more hopeful that Alison did care about her. The synopsis poses the question of whether Emily really is Alison’s favorite … or if the meeting is part of “A’s” doing.

Spencer is “determined to not let her friend get hurt,” but Aria and Hanna are too distracted dealing with “matters of the heart.” A recently released sneak peek reveals that despite her rough breakup with Caleb, Hanna appears to be moving on -- with Travis. The video shows the pair playing pool while Travis questions Hanna about her tearful breakdown that occurred in episode 10. “You know you don’t have to put up a front with me,” he tells her. But Hanna’s not ready to talk about Caleb and his departure for Ravenswood.

As for Aria? The promo video for “Close Encounters” reveals that Jake is back in town and VERY suspicious of Ezra. “This isn’t over,” Ezra yells as he slams his hands down on a car that’s driving away. Jake appears to be watching from the sidelines, and he doesn’t like what he sees.

“I’ve always wondered if Ezra was the person you were afraid of,” Jake tells a surprised looking Aria. But will Aria put two-and-two together? Or will the teen just think that Jake is acting like a jealous boyfriend?
