Princess Diana’s former royal butler, Paul Burrell, recently shared details about his conversation with the late princess about Prince Charles.

While speaking with Yahoo News’ “The Royal Box” (via Express), Burrell said that Princess Diana once declared that Prince Charles wasn’t fit for the role of king. He added that Princess Diana thought Prince Charles would be too old by the time he becomes king so he should consider passing on the baton to Prince William.

“I don’t think we will never see King Charles and Queen Camilla on the throne of England. I know it’s his right, I know he’s heir to the throne. I know he’s waited his whole life to do it but his own wife said, ‘My husband is not fit for the job.’ Diana said that,” Burrell said.

Burrell also said that he doesn’t think Queen Elizabeth II will die anytime soon. The Queen Mother, for instance, passed away at the age of 101.

“I don’t think he will get there. I think by the time the Queen dies – and she will live to be Queen as long as there is breath in her body – she will die aged 101, 102, or 103, maybe. Her mother was almost 102 when she died. Longevity is in the family. I think, for the sake of the monarchy – by the time Charles gets there, he’s going to be 80,” Burrell said.

The former “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here” cast member also said that he hopes Prince Charles will declare that he no longer wants to become king. This way, the next generation will be the one to sit on the throne. Burrell said that Prince William and Kate Middleton will become great king and queen.

“I think William will be a great king and Catherine will be a great queen and one-day mommy’s ring [Princess Diana’s engagement ring, worn by the Duchess of Cambridge] will be sitting on the throne of England,” he said.
