Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have a clear idea of what they want to do following their exit from the royal family, but that doesn’t mean they really figured out the details in a way that would actually make their plans feasible.

According to the podcast Pod Save the Queen, while Prince Harry did present an exit plan to the royal family that he and his wife wanted to follow, it was one that actually wasn’t thought out well at all, and was, in fact, “ill-thought-out and haphazard.”

Russell Myers, who is featured on the podcast, hosted by Ann gripper, revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still have a long way to go when it comes to reaching an agreement with the royals about their exit strategy.

“I think Meghan and Harry had this scenario [in mind] where they would cherry-pick certain elements of their patronages and charities, flip between the two countries,” he said. “But they hadn’t really thought about the finances and the level of protection they’d be offered, where they’d live. But if you’re going to take the action, of saying ‘we’re doing it’, you should at least have what you believe to be a cast-iron plan. And they didn’t have it.”

“It was described to me as ill-thought-out and haphazard,” he continued. “That is a pretty damning indictment of the plans that they had. They weren’t thorough at all.”

Overall, he said, something needs to be hammered out that not only benefits what the couple wants, but that allows for the royal family to move forward without them in their senior roles in a way that keeps things going as smoothly as possible.

“It needs to be a smooth transition, because if it isn’t it’s going to affect the Queen, Charles and William. Whether William and Kate will need to take on more central roles for other patronages, it’s going to have a big knock-on effect,” Myers said. “The Sussexes just didn’t think about anyone but themselves.”

The new comments about the couple’s plan come after it was revealed that Prince William allegedly tried to warn the couple about what they could expect if they married as well as claims that while Prince Harry wants to act in the best interest of his wife and son, Markle is the one who is “leading the charge” when it comes to the plans to step back from their royal roles.
