The royal family is working to find a solution to work with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plans to step down as senior members and become more independent, but the drama that led to their shocking departure was something that may have been predicted by someone very close to them in the past.

According to a resurfaced report (via Express UK), when Prince William famously questioned the speed of his younger brother’s relationship with Markle, he was potentially predicting the pair would struggle with the spotlight that was cast on them—something that did wind up happening and partially led to their decision now to step away from their lives as members of the royal family.

The original report, by royal correspondent Emily Andrews in December 2018, discussed the alleged feud that formed between the brothers when William questioned Harry’s relationship prior to marriage and alluded to the fact that he was warning Harry what he and Markle could face—not questioning the feelings the couple had for one another.

“William told his brother they knew nothing about her background, her intentions, what she was really like,” a source told Andrews at the time. “He just wanted to stress tha5t becoming part of the Royal Family is a massive undertaking and the pressure and scrutiny is unrelenting. Was Meghan the right one?”

Allegedly, Prince Harry didn’t take well to his brother’s comments and accused him of trying to put an end to the relationship, which led to their reported feud and the eventual split between their two houses. However, if Prince William was simply trying to warn his brother that there would be a lot of scrutiny on his relationship and he would use caution before pursuing it further, the warning did not work, as he not only went on to marry Markle in 2018, but the couple welcomed their first child together as well in 2019.

Of course, his brother was not the only one who may have predicted that the harsh glare of the spotlight may have been too much for the couple to handle. In fact, one of Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriends, Chelsy Davy, allegedly ended her long-term romance with him because she knew she wouldn’t want to deal with the media focusing on every element of her life.

Davy, who dates Prince Harry on-and-off from 2004-2011, even spoke up about how intrusive she felt the media was on her life after their romance came to an end.

“It was so full-on. Crazy and scary and uncomfortable. I found it very difficult when it was bad,” she said at the time. “I couldn’t cope... I was trying to be a normal kid, and it was horrible.”

The intense media scrutiny the Duk and Duchess of Sussex have faced has been considered as one of the factors behind their decision to step back from their prominent royal roles and was even the subject of the pair’s concerns following the airing of the documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey” in October. However, other reports have indicated as well that some of their issues came from within the royal family as well.

According to People Magazine, the pair felt like they had no choice but to step down due to “bad blood.”

“This is not how they wanted to handle this, but Meghan and Harry’s hand was forced,” a friend of the couple told the publication. “There is so much bad blood in that family—it's toxic. If relationships had been better, things would have been different.”

“Meghan and Harry didn’t feel they got enough comfort or solace from them,” the friend added.
