Although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry believe it is best to step back from their royals duties, Prince Philip was reportedly disappointed with the way the couple chose to announce their plans for 2020.

When Meghan and Harry released their statement about their future on Instagram, they failed to warn senior royals like Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Charles about their decision.

As a result, Prince Philip was reportedly left feeling like the couple disrespected his wife. Following Prince Harry and Meghan’s announcement, a source told The Sun on Sunday that the Duke of Edinburgh asked, “What the hell are they playing at?”

“To say that the Duke feels let down would be a considerable understatement. He is deeply hurt. But he was spitting blood when aides informed him what had happened. Philip has accused Harry and Meghan of lacking respect, and he is weary of their behavior,” an insider revealed.

The source claimed Prince Philip is worried about how the announcement and the events to follow will affect Queen Elizabeth. “They did not spend Christmas with the family — which he and the Queen accepted — and now this,” the insider explained.

“His primary concern is the impact this is having on the Queen. A lot of Philip’s anger comes from seeing Her Majesty upset.”

On Wednesday, Meghan and Harry shocked fans when they revealed their plans to distance themselves from the royal family. “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution” the statement read.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.”

Queen Elizabeth will reportedly hold meetings on Monday to address the current crisis in the royal family.
