Following Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s separation in 1992, she took Prince William and Prince Harry on what some would believe were luxurious vacations. However, the Princess of Wales’ former bodyguard had a different perspective on the getaways.

The royal employee revealed that his former boss behaved recklessly and put her sons’ safety in jeopardy on several occasions.

In the biography, “Harry: Conversations with the Prince,” Angela Levin claimed Princess Diana would sneak out without her bodyguards. “She behaved irresponsibly in March 1993, a year after her official separation when she was on a skiing holiday in Lech, Austria, with William and Harry,” Levin wrote.

“Their bodyguard, Ken Wharfe described how Diana and the boys were guarded ‘all the time,’ but one night Diana jumped out of the window of her suite on the first floor, which had a 20ft drop into the snow – and stayed out all night.”

Levin revealed that no one knew Princess Diana had snuck off until hours later. “Her antics were only discovered at 5:30 a.m. the next day when she rang the doorbell to the exclusive Albert Hotel,” the royal biographer revealed.

When she returned, Diana claimed she simply “needed some air.”

However, it wasn’t the first time Diana jeopardized the safety of herself and her sons. In 1988, the Princess of Wales allegedly snuck out of the royal estate in Scotland, Balmoral with Prince Harry.

In her book, Levin claimed Princess Diana “evaded her security minders and the policy by creeping out with Harry very early one morning and driving nine miles to Craigendarroch Hotel, which had a luxury leisure center.”

When she arrived, the hotel staff recognized her and noticed she looked “a bit nervous on her own.” Since the manager was typically called in advance of a royal’s arrival so the authorities could do a security sweep, the police were alerted about the royal’s unexpected visit.

“Within minutes, two unmarked cars arrived at the hotel to ensure her and Harry’s safety,” Levin claimed.

While the royal’s escapes from her bodyguards were often discovered, Levin claimed Princess Diana “enjoyed planning conspiracy with her boys, some of which verged on the reckless.”

Prince Charles and Princess Diana finalized their divorce in 1996. The Princess of Wales died the following year in a car crash in Paris.
