Before Kate Middleton became Prince William’s wife, she was a shy schoolgirl who dreamed of dating one of her classmates. However, it appears there were several factors that caused the Duchess of Cambridge to miss out on the chance of experiencing puppy love with her crush.

Andrew Alexander, who is now known by “Downton Abbey” fans as Sir John Bullock, went by the name Andrew de Perlak when he was in school alongside Kate, years ago.

Royal biographer Katie Nicholl revealed Kate was interested in Andrew but couldn’t bring herself to share her feelings with her crush.

“He was the best-looking boy in her year, and Kate had gotten to know him well as they were both in the school choir, but sadly for her, Andrew was already ‘dating’ her friend Fiona Beacroft.”

Nicholl revealed Kate reserved demeanor was also no help in getting Andrew to notice her as more than just a friend. Andrew revealed Kate was “much shier than the other girls” and never participated in games like spin the bottle.

Reflecting on his youth, the actor revealed he knew Kate had a crush on him but she never had the courage to approach him with the truth.

“It was funny because it was passed on to me, as happens at school, that Catherine liked me. She never told me that herself, she didn’t have the confidence,” Andrew said.

Although Kate missed out on the chance to date her childhood crush, she eventually got her happily ever after with Prince William. The couple married in 2011 and are now parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
