Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana reportedly had a close relationship with each other, but this doesn’t mean that everything was always peaceful between the two.

In the book “Diana’s Nightmare – The Family,” it was revealed that the Duchess of York wanted to outshine the mom of two on multiple occasions that she even went as far as plotting the ultimate act of revenge against Princess Diana.

Many years ago, Ferguson tried to land on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar prior to Princess Diana’s Vogue success. The result of this move was reportedly catastrophic because Ferguson was criticized by magazine editor Vicki Woods.

Authors Chris Hutchins and Peter Thompson said that Ferguson opted for her then-private secretary Jane Ambler to dictate the terms under which the Duchess of York would agree to grace the cover of the magazine. Ferguson wanted to bring her own creative team, which includes a manicurist and her personal photographers. However, Woods wanted to choose her own photographer for the shoot.

Hutchins and Thompson said that Ferguson wanted to take charge of the photoshoot simply because she wanted to outshine Princess Diana. She, later on, asked Johnny Bryan to take over the new negotiations to appear on the publication’s cover.

The authors said that this move was an “indelicacy that would have even embarrassed a rhinoceros.” And on the day of the pictorial, Woods withdrew her offer from Ferguson, who wanted to retain copyright of the photos.

Prince Andrew’s ex-wife was upset over the fall out of the deal and thought that Princess Diana was being favored by publications over her. Ferguson also told a magazine editor that she wanted to appear on the cover of the magazine because she knew “big D” will star on Vogue’s cover as well. When Princess Diana found out about the debacle, she smiled from ear to ear because she didn’t like Bryan and no longer trusted Ferguson.

Despite Ferguson and Princess Diana's feud, the Duchess of York still has nothing but good things to say about the Princess of Wales. Ferguson revealed that she thought of Princess Diana while attending the royal wedding this year.
