Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift have started the new year by giving their fans a rare opportunity to hear what they think about each other and how they have managed to stay close to each other despite facing so many issues while they were younger.

Speaking in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the “Good For You” singer got candid about her friendship with Swift and revealed how close the “Bad Blood” hitmaker remained when she was experiencing so many issues like her depleting mental health and physical health, her battle against lupus and her nasty breakup with Justin Bieber. Gomez also noted that she can count on Swift to support her in any given situation.

The two musicians became friends when they were dating members of the Jonas Brothers. Gomez was in a relationship with Nick Jonas while Swift was dating Joe at the time.

Talking about her bond with the “You Need To Calm Down” hitmaker, Gomez explained that people don’t know how strong their friendship actually is and the reason why the world does not know about it is that they do not feel the “need” to post about it on social media.

The 27-year-old artist expressed her gratitude towards Swift for showing up every time she needed her. She also confessed that the “Shake It Off” hitmaker is one of the best people in her life.

“She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It has been proved year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world,” Gomez said.

On the other hand, the ten-time Grammy award-winning musician confessed how protective she feels towards the “Lose You To Love Me” hitmaker. Swift also noted that she will never be able to “forgive” people who hurt Gomez.

“In my life, I have the ability to forgive people who have hurt me. But I don’t know if I can forgive someone who hurts her,” Swift said.

Gomez is now gearing up for the release of her new album “Rare,” which comes out on Jan. 10. Talking about the album, Swift had a lot of things to say about her close pal and her battle to overcome everything and come back to making some extraordinary music.

The “Cats” star told the publication that she is really proud of her friend for finally allowing herself to let the whole world know that life is quite unpredictable and things are not always “ok.”

The world got to first know about their friendship in 2008 when the “Same Old Love” singer revealed in an interview that they started their beautiful bond while dating their exes and it was good for the both of them that they managed to get out of those relationships soon enough.

The two were seen making numerous appearances together on various award shows like Billboard Music Awards and the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. Gomez also performed her single “Who Says” with Swift at the Madison Square Garden while being on her “Speak Now” tour.

Most recently, Swift praised Gomez for her latest single “Love You To Lose Me” on Instagram, and she even wrote that the song is a “triumph.”
