The hit HBO romantic comedy-drama "Sex and the City" could return to television for a reboot version. It could be revived for its long-awaited limited series with its original cast members.

Based on Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name, "Sex and the City" is an iconic television series starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon in leading roles. The show, which premiered in 2004, became an instant hit and a household name for tackling several modern social issues related to sexuality, relationships, and femininity.

According to Page Six, an industry insider has revealed that HBO’s streaming platform HBO Max is planning to bring back “Sex and the City” to the small screen in a limited series format. The show will see Parker, Davis, and Nixon reprise their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes. However, Cattrall is not returning to the show in her memorable role of Samantha Jones. The Emmy-award winning actress has been very vocal about not wanting to return to the series.

In an interview with Piers Morgan in 2017, Cattrall said that she would want another actress to play the role of Samantha in the series if the show is revived again. Many speculate it could be because of her long-running feud with Parker.

“It’s a great part,” Cattrall said, as per TV Line. “I played it past the finish line and then some, and I loved it. And another actress should play it. Maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones, or a Hispanic Samantha Jones.”

The original “Sex and the City” had a successful six-season run and two movies. The series won several accolades which included seven Emmy Awards, eight Golden Globes, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in September 2019, Parker expressed interest in doing “some episodes” for the series. However, she would not like to call it a “reboot” but a “revisit.”

Meanwhile, fans of the series are informed that the HBO reps are yet to confirm the news and make the announcement official.
