  • Kristin Davis said they didn't want the "Sex and the City" fans to have the same expectations, so they renamed the reboot
  • Davis is leaving it to the audience if they will like the revival without Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones
  • Davis said they handled Cattrall's absence with respect and she felt that it was very real

Kristin Davis got candid about the reboot of "Sex and the City" and why it has a different title.

"Sex and the City" was a hit series that spawned two movies. Fans want to see Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her BFFs again and they will in the revival series "And Just Like That." However, many are wondering why the upcoming show has a completely different title.

"Our whole purpose was that this is the next chapter," Davis told Entertainment Tonight when she walked the red carpet at the New York City premiere of the series. "That's our only reason to have it have a different title."

She continued, "We didn't want people to have the same expectations when obviously it's a different time, it's a different show that speaks to now. Thus, it's called 'And Just Like That'."

Davis reprises her role as Charlotte York in the series. Parker will also return as Carrie, so as Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes. However, Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, is not part of the show. The original series focused on Carrie and her three BFFs. So, fans would surely feel Samantha's absence. When Davis was asked if the viewers will be satisfied without the strong, confident and outspoken Samantha, she chose to leave that to the audience.

"I certainly cannot speak for fans. They are allowed to have their own feelings," Davis explained. "I personally feel very pleased with how we handled it. I think [executive producer and director] Michael Patrick [King] cares deeply about handling it with respect and we have, and I feel like it's very real."

When it comes to returning to the series as Charlotte, Davis said it was easy because the character was too familiar to her after portraying it for six seasons on HBO's "Sex and the City" and in two feature films. Also, Davis said Michael Patrick "writes very beautifully for me."

Cattrall is reportedly not returning due to her feud with Parker. She declined to appear on "And Just Like That" and refused to star in the third "Sex and the City" movie. Parker already denied the feud, but Cattrall lashed out at her in a post on social media in 2018.

"Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven't already) You are not my family. You are not my friend," Cattrall wrote on Instagram at the time. "So I'm writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your 'nice girl' persona."

Parker continued to deny the bad blood between her and Cattrall. Meanwhile, Chris Noth, who plays Parker's on-screen love interest, Mr. Big, on the show sided with her.

"I do know that I'm very close with SJ and [Cattrall's] descriptions of her don’t even come close," Noth told The Guardian.
