Colombian singer Shakira got candid about her worst and best looks and made fun comments on her own fashion journey in Vogue México y Latinoamérica's "My Life in Looks" released Tuesday.

"I'm going to take you on a journey back through my career going through the looks that accompanied me along the way," she said during the interview.

The 44-year-old singer then recalled the time she was honored by the French Ministry of Culture in January 2012 and how her mother-in-law, Montserrat Bernabeu, gave her terrible fashion advice.

"Oh, how terrible! That's a really bad haircut," Shakira said while revisiting the photos. "I took advice from my mother-in-law. She said, 'Ay, why don't you cut your hair? It's really damaged.' Worst mistake of my life. Mother-in-law, I'm not taking cosmetics advice from you again."

When she saw the animal print outfit she wore to AFI FEST 2007, she immediately commented, "Here, ew. This dress…I look like a badly wrapped tamale."

Shakira went on to see more photos, including an image taken during the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. Upon seeing it, she about her resemblance to Xena, a fictional character.

"What am I wearing? A top covered in feathers and a tiara and some leather pants that I think I had made myself. I designed them."

"Sometimes I design my own things to get myself out of a tight spot," the singer explained. "When I can't find what I want, it's down to me… I don't know what I was thinking there, but I'd just done the video for 'Whenever, Wherever,' the video for 'Suerte.' At the time I was enjoying, I was experimenting with earthy tones."

Shakira also praised some of her outfits. She raved about her 2000 Latin GRAMMY look and noted that she was only 24 at the time.

"It was at the Latin Grammys," she said. "And it was a really special night because I left with a few Grammys myself. And I remember I specifically chose red because I thought red would be a memorable color."

"I wanted the tops or bodysuits that I wore at the time to have a certain shape that complimented my figure," she explained.

She also recalled her "incredible experience" at the 2020 Super Bowl and of course, the beautiful dress designed by Peter Dundas.

Shakira dropped her last music video "Girl Like Me" in December 2020 in collaboration with Black Eyed Peas.
