There was a little “Smallville” reunion at Wizard World Chicago over the weekend. Michael Rosenbaum posted a selfie with two of his former castmates, Tom Welling and Ian Somerhalder.

Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor for seven seasons on the WB/CW hit, which retold Superman’s origin story. Welling played Clark Kent for all 10 seasons. Somerhalder, meanwhile, only appeared in 6 episodes of Season 3 as Adam Knight before leaving for a little show called “Lost.”

Photos like this are as close as fans will get to a “Smallville” reunion for now. While it seems like the cast keeps in touch, the actors haven’t been overly enthusiastic about returning to their breakout roles for a movie or revival series.

“Good luck trying to get everybody in one spot at one time, that’s for sure. Everybody’s busy,” Welling told Access last year, adding that he was pretty happy with how the series ended.

One way to avoid those scheduling conflicts would be an animated reboot. “I said to Al [Gough, executive producer], we should do an animated ‘Smallville.’ That would be huge!” Rosenbaum told audiences during a panel at Awesome Con in April (via ScreenRant). “I mean, ‘Smallville: The Animated Series,’ with all the real voices? And I wouldn’t have to shave my head! We’ve got to do that. Can you imagine us on mics doing the same dialogue?”

A complete reunion seems even more unlikely with Chloe Sullivan actress Allison Mack’s legal issues. The actress, along with other top members of the self-help group Nxivm, was arrested on sex trafficking charges.

While it doesn’t seem like any “Smallville” reunions, revivals or reboots are getting the green light, the actors are still working. Welling appears on “Lucifer,” which just got picked up by Netflix after being canceled on Fox. Somerhalder went on to star in “Lost” and returned to The CW for “The Vampire Diaries, which wrapped in 2017. He’ll star in Netflix’s “V-Wars” TV show soon. Rosenbaum starred on the short-lived comedy “Impastor” until 2016 and had a small role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

The Lex actor also has his podcast, “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum,” produced by Unqualified Productions. He even has some “Smallville” reunions on the show. Welling and Green Arrow actor Justin Hartley have both stopped by as well as newer faces from DC TV like Stephen Amell (“Arrow”) and Danielle Panabaker (“The Flash”). New episodes are released on Tuesdays.
