On “Star” Season 2, episode 2, Star (Jude Demorest) will do what it takes to guarantee the group’s (Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady) future. Fox

Despite winning a record deal at Atlanta NextFest, Star, Alex and Simone are no closer to achieving their dreams of becoming a famous girl group. With new challenges thrown their way on “Star” Season 2, episode 2, the girls will be forced to face the reality that their music careers may be over.

“The girls receive a rude awakening when the fierce new label head, Ayanna (Michael Michele), demands they re-brand their image in order to have a shot at competing with the label’s other talented artists,” the synopsis for “Insecure” teases.

In the promo for the Fox series, Ayanna tells the group that they are low on her list of priorities. The girls have been at the label for five months and have nothing to show for it, and unless they can come up with some hit songs, they may lose their record deal.

“A disgruntled Star (Jude Demorest) chooses to take matters into her own hands, causing tensions between her and Carlotta to escalate,” the synopsis for “Star” Season 2, episode 2 says.

In the promo for the Fox series, Alex (Ryan Destiny) doesn’t seem to care that the group is at risk of losing their contract. However, Star seems determined to make sure the group has a future.

The aspiring singer can be heard saying that the three of them fought hard to land their record deal and it is all that they have. Star is known for doing whatever and whoever it takes to climb her way to the top, so there is no doubt that the artist will figure out a backup plan to guarantee her future.

Carlotta (Queen Latifah) is later seen yelling at a new character, possibly a music producer, telling the person if they want to play a track for the group they need to go through her because she is their manager.

Since the Season 2 premiere, Star doesn’t seem to be happy about Carlotta managing the group because they haven’t gotten anywhere since she took on the role. In the promo, she is heard saying that Carlotta may not be the one who will help them become successful. Later on, during a conversation, Carlotta tells Star that despite what she thinks, she isn’t the problem, Star is.

“Meanwhile, Alex, Simone (Brittany O’Grady) and Cotton (Amiyah Scott) all struggle with adjusting to some major life changes,” the synopsis for “Insecure” states. Although Alex told everyone she had a miscarriage over the summer, it was revealed that she actually got an abortion and has been keeping the secret to herself.

In the promo, she can be seen asking Derek (Quincy Brown) when he plans on getting back into his zone ,because he hasn’t left the house in a while.

Following his accident, Derek has not been in the best mindset because doctors revealed he will most likely never walk again. Despite being bound to a wheelchair, he tells Alex that he doesn’t care and he will one day walk again.

Meanwhile, living at a group home has been tough for Simone, who’s been getting bullied by the other residents there. Although she is desperate to move back to Carlotta’s house, the process to get her out of the system seems to be taking longer than expected.

Cotton is also adjusting to a new living situation after finally getting out of jail. After spending months incarcerated, she is now forced to deal with her real-world problems that initially landed her in prison, along with the guilt she faces for being a financial burden to her mother. Will she be able to move on from the past?

“Star” Season 2, episode 1 airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT on Fox.
