A devasted Tennessee mother is mourning the loss of her 7-month-old baby who was fatally mauled by their family dog over the weekend.

The Sevier County Sheriff's office received a call regarding an infant being unresponsive following a dog attack on Oct. 17 around 6:15 p.m. at a home in Kodak. The responding emergency crew found the baby, Bentley Parker, dead at the scene. Another person, Bentley's grandmother, was inside the home and sustained injuries while trying to protect the child during the attack, WBIR reported.

“To know that I’m never going to be able to hold him. I never got to hear him say 'Momma.' I never thought that when I left that trailer I would never see him again,” said the infant’s mother, Tiffany to WATE.

The dog, a Saint Bernard, belonged to Tiffany’s mother. On the day of the attack, Tiffany dropped her son at her mother's home and left to run an errand. She was gone for about two hours when the dog fatally attacked Bentley.

“I made sure the dog was locked outside. How he got inside, I don’t know,” Tiffany said to the outlet. Tiffany said the dog had previously shown aggression toward Bentley, but never to the extent of attacking him.

Tiffany said her mother got injured while cradling the infant and protecting him from the dog. “There was just so much blood on my mom that it looks something from like a haunted house or something,” she said.

In her interview with WATE, Tiffany warned other parents about their pet animal’s behavior and said to take precautions if they show signs of aggression.

First responders had to put the dog down at the scene after it became aggressive toward them.

“He was just so much love. Those bright blue eyes, they just look up at you and just smile all the time,” Tifanny said. “Each day that I get up and take a step forward, it’s for him. I won’t give up on him because I know I’ll see him again,” she added.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
