Some Americans using tax preparation software companies TurboTax and H&R Block are having problems accessing their $1,400 payments, a report showed.

Keri Behling, a 39-year-old Florida resident who filed her taxes with TurboTax, recently tried to check the status of her stimulus payment using the IRS's Get My Payment tool. She found that the $1,400 payment had already been deposited.

But like millions of other tax preparation software company users, the IRS had sent Behling’s payment to the wrong bank account, they told CNBC Make It.

Many Americans said the numbers shown on the Get My Payment tool were “pass-through” accounts that the tax preparation companies had set up for them. Other payment recipients said the relief aid was sent to bank accounts they had previously used but were now closed.

Behling called TurboTax to sort out the issue, but she was told that there was nothing the company could do. She was then redirected to the IRS, which is the agency responsible for sending out the payments.

“I sat on hold with the IRS for over an hour,” Behling told CNBC Make It. “The person who finally answered ... placed me on hold and it brought me back to a recording that said my call could not be completed.”

Abby Masters, a customer of H&R Block, also said that the IRS sent her payment to the wrong account. Masters had previously experienced the same problem when the federal government sent out the second round of checks worth $600.

“They have fixed nothing,” Masters said.

Spokespersons for TurboTax and H&R Block said the payment issue was only affecting a “small group” and were “isolated” cases.

“We’ve reached out directly to these customers with information about their stimulus payment,” a TurboTax spokesperson said.

The account issue came after TurboTax and H&R Block on Monday said their customers would not experience any issues with their direct deposits.

Earlier this year, both tax preparation companies experienced a glitch that delayed the stimulus payment deposits to their customers. In a statement, TurboTax said it had worked with the IRS to ensure that they have accurate bank account information on all its users.

“We are working closely with the IRS, and we’ve confirmed that the IRS has accurate bank account information for all TurboTax customers,” TurboTax said.
